Its bold, unmistakable character divides opinion yet unites a passionate global community of fans who celebrate its distinctive flavour.
This case study film showcases the latest campaign introducing the Laphroaig 10 Year Old Unphorgettable Edition. The film captures the spirit of the island, the whisky, and the people who connect with its uncompromising identity.
The Approach:
The creative direction was rooted in the established look and feel of Laphroaig, with the aim of crafting a film that reflects the raw, gritty essence of the whisky. Shot using footage from Islay, Scotland, the visuals emphasise the island’s harsh beauty windswept coastlines, textured landscapes, and the constant presence of the Atlantic.
The energy of the film is intentionally rough and unpolished, mirroring the intensity of Laphroaig’s flavour profile and the attitude of the island itself. Inky, paper-cut style animations were developed to complement this tone, featuring weathered textures and organic movement inspired by materials worn down by sea spray and time.
Together, the live action footage and tactile animation style create a cohesive visual language that evokes the unmistakable taste of Laphroaig bold, layered, and shaped by the elements. The result is a film that not only celebrates the Unphorgettable Edition, but also captures the enduring character and heritage of the brand.
